    Workflow

    How the KY-560 Works

A four-stage automated cycle ensures perfect book construction from block presentation to finished case-bound product — every time.

    1

    Book Block Loading

The glued and pressed book block is positioned on the infeed conveyor. The PLC detects block dimensions and adjusts glue head spacing automatically.

    2

    Endpaper Gluing

Precision cold-glue (or hot melt) rollers apply a measured, consistent adhesive coat to both endpapers simultaneously, controlled to ±0.1 mm thickness.

    3

    Case Alignment

The hardcover case is automatically aligned and centred over the book block using servo-actuated guides. Square and round spine profiles are accommodated.

    4

    Pressing & Discharge

Consistent pressure is applied across the full cover area to bond endpapers to the case. The finished hardcover book is discharged to the outfeed conveyor.

    Procurement FAQ

    Questions from B2B Buyers

Common questions from print finishing equipment buyers, procurement managers, and production engineers evaluating the KY-560.

The KY-560 handles book sizes from a minimum of 150 × 100 mm up to a maximum of 420 × 300 mm (A3 format), with spine (book block thickness) ranging from 5 mm to 65 mm. This covers the vast majority of hardcover trade books, textbooks, photo albums, notebooks, and commercial print products in standard and oversized formats.
Yes. The KY-560 natively supports both flat spine (square back) and round spine (rounded back) bookbinding configurations. Spine type and glue application profiles are adjusted via the PLC + HMI touchscreen without requiring mechanical tool changes, enabling rapid product switchover on a single shift.
The KY-560 holds CE certification under the CE Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), making it fully compliant for import and commercial operation throughout all EU member states, the EEA, and the UK. The manufacturing facility is ISO 9001:2015 certified. The CE Declaration of Conformity, technical file, and test reports are included in the standard documentation package shipped with every machine.
Cold glue (PVA-based, standard): Excellent open time for precise positioning, ideal for uncoated and matte-laminated paper substrates, no warm-up time, lower operating cost.

Hot melt (optional upgrade): Faster set time (seconds vs. minutes), superior bond on coated, gloss-laminated, UV-varnished, and synthetic endpapers. Recommended for photo albums, prestige hardcovers, and laminated notebooks. Both systems are fully integrated into the PLC for consistent, repeatable glue application thickness.
Standard production and handling lead time post order confirmation: 7–10 business days. International sea freight transit: 15–35 days to major destination ports (USA, EU, Australia, UK, SE Asia). The machine ships fully assembled and factory-tested with CE Declaration of Conformity, operator manual, electrical schematics, and spare parts list. FOB, CIF, and DDP Incoterms available — contact our sales team to confirm for your destination.
The KY-560 requires two utility connections: (1) Compressed air at 0.6–0.8 MPa (approximately 6–8 bar) via a standard 8 mm or ¼-inch push-fit fitting; (2) 220V, 50Hz single-phase electrical supply — no three-phase power is required, which simplifies installation and reduces electrical infrastructure cost. Total installed power draw is 2.5 kW.
    Technical Overview

Book Casing-In Machines: A Buyer’s Guide for Industrial Print Operations

What Is a Book Casing-In Machine?

A book casing-in machine is a post-press finishing system that automates the critical step of joining a bound book block to its rigid hardcover case (the “casing-in” operation). The process involves applying adhesive to the endpapers of the finished book block, precisely positioning the block inside the pre-made cover, and applying controlled pressure to create a permanent, durable bond.

“Casing-in quality determines the structural integrity and perceived premium quality of every hardcover book. Poor adhesion, misalignment, or inconsistent glue weight are immediately visible — and irreversible.”

    — Post-Press Quality Engineering Perspective

PLC + HMI Control: Why It Matters for B2B Buyers

The KY-560’s Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) paired with a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) touchscreen represents the operational core of the machine. Unlike relay-logic or cam-driven older machines, PLC control enables:

    • Storage of multiple product recipes (book formats) for instant recall
    • Real-time monitoring of glue temperature, application weight, and cycle count
    • Automatic fault diagnosis with operator prompts — reducing unplanned downtime
    • Remote diagnostics capability for rapid technical support
    • Parameter locking to prevent untrained operator errors

For production managers, this translates directly into measurable OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) improvements and a shorter operator training curve — critical in facilities managing high staff turnover.

Cold Glue vs. Hot Melt: Selecting the Right System

Glue system selection is among the most consequential decisions in a casing-in machine specification. The KY-560 offers cold glue as standard with hot melt as a factory option, addressing the two dominant commercial requirements:

    • Cold PVA glue is preferred for uncoated, matte-laminated, and natural paper endpapers where open time allows for precise positioning before adhesion sets
    • Hot melt adhesive is required for gloss-laminated, UV-finished, and coated endpapers that would not accept water-based PVA — and for operations requiring high-speed set to maintain throughput

Both configurations produce bonds that meet or exceed European standard EN ISO 10290 requirements for book and booklet adhesive binding strength.

    CE Certification: A Non-Negotiable for EU/UK Procurement

For purchasing managers in European Union countries, the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, or Australia operating under machinery safety regulations, CE marking is not optional — it is a legal prerequisite for lawful commercial operation. The KY-560 carries full CE Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) certification, including the required risk assessment, safety component verification, and Declaration of Conformity. This eliminates the regulatory risk that non-certified equipment creates during facility audits, insurance reviews, and local authority inspections.

“For our procurement committee, CE certification and ISO manufacturing quality were evaluated before a single machine specification. The KY-560 met both criteria — and delivered the throughput numbers we needed.”

    — Production Director, European Commercial Printer

    Integration into Existing Bindery Lines

The KY-560 is designed to operate both as a standalone workstation and as an integrated component within a semi-automated or fully automated binding line. Its infeed and outfeed conveyor interfaces are compatible with standard industrial conveyor heights, enabling connection to preceding operations (rounding and backing, backlining) and downstream pressing/joint-forming stations.

The single-phase 220V power requirement and compact 2100 × 1400 mm footprint make the KY-560 suitable for installation in facilities without three-phase infrastructure — a significant advantage for smaller print operations and pre-press service bureaux expanding into hardcover production.
